I'd heard a lot of conflicting things about Lime Crime in the past and although they most definitely appealed to me and seemed to have a lot of great products, the controversy surrounding the brand had always kind of put me off from actually ordering anything.
That was until, towards the end of January this year, I saw that their Velvetines liquid lipsticks had miraculously become available on a UK based cosmetics store, so I snapped them up with some left over birthday money I had received that month.
Anybody who is aware of Lime Crime knows that the Velvetines are one of their all time best sellers and seem to send everybody into a frenzy. Due to the high demand of these lipsticks - no matter how high or low you search the internet - they are almost always sold out and when re-stocked usually fly straight off the shelves - making them notoriously difficult to get hold of.
They currently only sell two colours - each a shade of red - but I do believe that Lime Crime have already announced that new colours are in the making and should be released some time later this year.
I'd never tried a liquid lipstick before I bought these so I was really excited to try them out for the first time as soon as I received them in the post. For anybody unsure of what a liquid lipstick actually is, it's an opaque lip colour that comes in similar packaging as and applies exactly like a lipgloss, and in these Velvetines case dries to a completely matte texture.

The packaging is really cute, and the product itself smells good enough to eat.

'Suedeberry' is described by Lime Crime as 'Strawberry red, often associated with the 1950s icon Marilyn Monroe.', and is the more orange/coral toned of the two shades.

Whereas 'Red Velvet' is described as 'Rich, velvety red. Like petals of a red rose.' and is the deeper, more blue based colour of the two.
As for the lipsticks themselves, they're fully opaque (and a little goes a long way), they last a hell of a long time, they smell gorgeous and as for someone who often has very dry lips, I didn't find them too drying considering they are SUPER matte.
The only slight negative thing I could say about them is I personally found it a little difficult to get neat lines easily without using a lip liner, because naturally (for me at least) there is less control with a liquid compared to a regular tubed lipstick but I can imagine I would have the same problem with any brand of liquid lipstick.
I found this slight con to be easily solved by cleaning up the edges with a little bit of concealer.
Overall, I really like them and would happily say that they are more than worth the £11.50 price tag, and I will definitely be on the look out for other Velvetines and liquid lipsticks in the future.
